RXN is launching a 24 week financial literacy class called Future Profits. (Curriculum written by Northern California Urban Development Corporation)
Start Date: January 4, 2011
For Ages 15-21
Unit 1 - “Money in Your Neighborhood”
Establishes a foundation for the Life Economics curriculum, which understands that most choices are influenced by one’s surroundings and background. This unit expands students’ understanding of available opportunities by helping them analyze their attitudes and assumptions, thereby combating any negative information they have received and opening the way for new information in later lessons that can help the students make healthy choices for their future.
Unit 2 - “Financial Survival Skills – Budgeting”
Teaches students the important concepts of money management through a budget simulation exercise. The simulation gives students a realistic picture of what the financial life of an adult looks like, along with inspiring them to dream about their future opportunities for life and career.
Unit 3 - “Financial Survival Skills – Understanding The Game”
Prepares students for financial success by helping them understand the rules of financial institutions. Not only does it stress the importance of making the most of the financial systems, but it also warns students of ways they may be taken advantage of, in the areas of unnecessary bank fees, high interest rates, cycles of recurring debt, and predatory loans.
Unit 4 - “What You Need to Succeed”
Helps students realize how their decisions today will impact their future. The unit gives students a perspective on how education and training relates to their future income. Through inspirational, real-life examples, students gain the tools for wise decision making and goal setting leading to a successful life.
